Born in New-Zealand in 1991 and based in Paris, Stephen Whittaker develops a singular work at the crossroads of painting, architecture and sculpture. His work explores the tensions between nature, memory, and constructed space. He composes mental landscapes from hybrid materials – wood, cement, velvet, jute or alcantara – which he enhances with warm, earthy oil paints. His artworks, both sensitive and material, evoke the weight of tradition, the ruins of a changing world and the silent poetry of deserted places.
